Ray Harryhausen’s daughter Vanessa and Collections Manager Connor Heaney will introduce a 60th anniversary screening of the 1963 classic, as well as discussing the incredible archive cared for by the Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation.

Vanessa will be taking part in a special meet and greet lunch on Friday February 14th, from 1pm, where she will speak about growing up with her father’s legendary creations and films.

On Saturday 15th, a filmmaker’s panel from 4pm will see Vanessa and Collections Manager Connor Heaney discuss the work of the Foundation in protecting and preserving Ray Harryhausen’s incredible archive.

Finally, Ray’s 1961 classic ‘Mysterious Island’ will be screened as part of the festival’s legendary marathon on Sunday 16th, with a post screening presentation from Vanessa & Connor.

Our ‘Harryhausen: The Lost Movies‘ presentation will take place on Friday the 19th of July, 6:30-7:30pm, Room 26AB.

‘For the first time, the secrets have been unearthed for Ray’s unmade films: Missing scenes from the films you love. Stunning artworks, models, and test footage all revealing new worlds, epic lands, and fearsome creatures that until now had thought to have been lost for all time. Filmmaker John Walsh and collections manager Connor Heaney reveal the missing treasures.’

Comic-Con attendees also have the chance of receiving a free, limited edition A5 art card, containing imagery from upcoming Titan Books publication ‘Harryhausen: The Lost Movies‘.

Author and Foundation trustee John Walsh will be signing copies of this exclusive giveaway item at the convention’s autograph area AA05 between 5-6pm on Friday the 19th of July, shortly before our panel.

In this special presentation, author Richard Holliss will deliver an illustrated talk showcasing some of the amazing poster art for Ray Harryhausen’s beloved movies that he collected for his new book. And as an added bonus, there will be a screening of two rare pieces from Ray’s history:

- The Man Who Makes Monsters
ITV 1970. Dir William Cartner. 30min
A charming, informal, clip-heavy interview with Harryhausen about his illustrious career and his then-latest movie The Valley of Gwangi.

- Ray Harryhausen: Movement Into Life
UK 1990. Dir John Walsh 15min
Harryhausen gives an insight into his famous monster creations and reveals special effects secrets. Narrated by Tom Baker.

Pre-release copies of Harryhausen – The Movie Posters (Titan Books) will be available from the BFI Shop on the day, and Richard Holliss will be signing copies post-screening.
